THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER! |
Poor
misunderstood dogs. How exactly did it happen that they bear the brunt,
blame and misfortune of being designated as the harbingers of the
hottest, muggiest part of the summer season?
|
Sally with Tina, Aretha, Katie, and Annie |
Well, blame the ancient Greeks and Romans who believed that Sirius, also
called
the "Dog Star" which is in close proximity to the sun during the period
of July 24 to August 24, was responsible for the extra hot weather.
Since Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky, the ancients
thought that it's heat, combined with that of the sun, was the cause and
therefore responsible for the extraordinary hot and sultry weather.
Hence, the "Dog Days" of summer.

Teal and Toby - Have Dog Will Travel |
While
the actual dates of "Dog Days" varies greatly from region to region,
depending on latitude and climate, we can definitely tell you that we
are experiencing MAJOR DOG DAYS here in Palm Beach! So to help you
through this steamy, toasty time, we thought you might enjoy some
pictures of our staff with our furry friends!
Clearly,
Classic Collections loves animals, and we want to pass some interesting
info along to you. The ASPCA recommends taking these simple precautions
to help your pet from overheating, dehydration, heat stroke and
sunburn:
-
| Wendy and Emma | A summer check up to the vet is a must ..... especially for heartworm. - Keep pets in the shade if outdoors, give them plenty of fresh, clean water and do not over exercise.
- Know
warning signs of overheating: excessive panting, difficulty
breathing, increased heart rate, drooling, weakness, stupor, collapse or
seizures, and body temperature over 104 degrees.
- NO Parking! NEVER leave an animal in a parked vehicle which can become a furnace in no time, even with the windows open.
| Dove and Her Pack |
- Don't
leave pets unsupervised near pools or water and make sure on
boats they have flotation devices. Not all dogs are good
swimmers! Rinse dogs off after any type of swimming.
- Keep
summer hair styles short to prevent overheating. Never cut to the
skin - leave at least one inch so there is some protection from the
sun.
-
| Debbie and Anubis | Watch
those hot streets! Don't walk or let your dog linger on hot
asphalt. Being close to the ground, your dog's body can heat up
quickly and sensitive paws can burn. - This
is a no-brainer. Leave pets at home when you go to watch
fireworks. They really, really don't enjoy them like we do.

added an enhanced "Wish List" where you can list designers and/or styles
you would like to purchase or get info on, and on our end, we will
enter the info into our database, run a report, and email you with
existing items in inventory, and alert you as we have new items come in.
New
Categories added include Luggage (due to the great success of our
"Louis Vuittonathon" campaign), Vintage Jewelry and Fine Jewelry, which
we are now taking on consignment.
Most
of all, we now feature the ability to link to our Facebook and Twitter

SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS FOR PICKUPS! |
We intend to use our "Dog Days" wisely-staying inside with air conditioning, but we are going to be available by appointment for merchandise pickups by consignors. Here's
the way this service will work. Call or email us with a request to pick
up your merchandise. We will go through our records and inventory and
select your items for pickup. We will call or email you with a date that
your things will be returned to you. If you do not make that pickup as
scheduled and do not give us a courtesy call to reschedule, we will give
you a grace period of 5 days and then will donate your items to
charity.
We
must make room for our fall merchandise and ask you to consider our
space limitations and the fact that we have made appointments with many
of you for pickups only to never see you when we agreed to return the
merchandise. Over our time in the business, we have tried to be VERY
considerate to our consignors and appreciate the marvelous items they
consign with us. Please, please show us the same consideration and
if you want your items back, give us the courtesy of reclaiming them
when you have promised to do so. Thank you in advance. |

Florence and the clothing, designer evening dresses and casual tops are
based on original works of art. Elana Fantini,
the creative genius of Save the Queen, ties her designs to traditional
Italian art and utilizes craftsmen from Tuscany, Molise and Abruzzi to
produce her one of a kind pieces. These artisans work with ancient
techniques of embroidery, lace making, and fabric printing to create
modern, edgy and unique pieces that blend the best of the old world with
today's current trends.
