The birth of the label was in 1970 in New York and the Hampton’s, where Lon Sabella and Daniel Mikesell quickly gained a loyal following among society ladies. With their ability to custom design any outfit for any occasion, they built up a who’s who of clients who eventually suggested they also take a look at locating to Palm Beach. Twelve years ago, they made the permanent move to our fair town and opened their boutique on Worth Avenue. Dressing the glittering society women of Palm Beach became their passion and they produced everything from day dresses, lounging outfits, cocktail attire, and glamourous ball gowns replete with feathers, sequins and bling! |

With the COVID pandemic and resulting leasing issues, Sabella Mikesell closed their wonderful boutique in 2020. We are happy to report that they are still designing and custom creating fashions for their clientele and have brought a selection of their designs to Classic Collections for their first Trunk Show! They will be featured through April, and as a courtesy to our customers, Sabella Mikesell have announced a discount of 40% on their merchandise.

Several designer day dresses have arrived sporting labels such as Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Carolina Herrera, Oscar del la Renta, Etro, Escada and Valentino. Many of these items still have original tags and are waiting for you to try them on! |

What can we say? The fabrics, tailoring, styles and attention to detail are all important and critical features of custom, true couture designs. Many of these pieces are unique - i.e., only one was made, and when it came from the ateliers of designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Chanel, they were very special pieces indeed. One such piece is this stunning dress by Oscar de la Renta. |

Designed in the 1980’s, this creation is a dress coat that is inspired by the coloration and style of the coats worn by the Suisse Guards at the Vatican. Made of heavy, luxurious striped silk and banded in regal red, this dress has an off-set front zipper with a tasseled pull. Emphasizing the waist are red banded side and back panels buttressed underneath with stiff tulle (called a pannier crinoline) to create the military silhouette famously adopted by the royal courts of Europe in the 18th Century. |

While Classic Collections is not known as a “vintage” boutique, occasionally pieces are brought in that we simply must have. One such creation is a dress we estimate was made in the first or second quarter of the 20th century. One can only imagine a beautiful flapper dancing the night away on Gatsby’s pool deck in this pale pink beaded and floral bejeweled slip dress featuring a high low hem. So classic and stylish that it could be worn by you right now with nary a concern!

With a nod to some small quantities of certain pieces, we cannot forget to mention the remarkable work done in 2012 by Pete Dundas for Pucci in this stunning gold beaded cocktail dress. With a flair for the dramatic, this style was shortened to accentuate the legs against its lacy gold scalloped hem and features high side slits. Sporting sequins, gold ball and tube beads, gold crocheted medallions and a head skull created with rhinestones and sequins, this piece is certainly a rare glimpse of the talents of Pucci’s artists! |
